The YMCA of Harrison County teamed up with Harrison County Community Services to help local students in need head back to school with the supplies needed to succeed. In return, the YMCA of Harrison County offered a two-week reduced joining fee promotion for new members who helped with this project. Those interested in joining the YMCA of Harrison County could donate a new or gently used backpack filled with school supplies August 1 through August 14 and received 50% the one-time joining fee.

School supplies that were accepted inside a new or gently used backpack, at least 5 of these items must have been included in the backpacks:

  • Notebooks
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Colored Pencils
  • Folders
  • Loose Leaf Paper
  • Binders
  • Art Boxes
  • Scissors
  • Glue Sticks

The filled backpacks collected were given to Harrison County Community Services who then distributed them to local students in need.

Harrison County Community Services Executive Director, Richard Cooper, stopped by the YMCA of Harrison County to pick up the filled backpacks. Gavin and Luke helped Mr. Cooper and Marketing and Communications Director for the YMCA of Harrison County, Kim Spieth, load the backpacks. 30 filled backpacks were collected during the two-week period.
