photo201006_0006_26Studies show that drowning is the second leading cause of incidental death to youth ages birth to 18 years of age with Indiana ranking in the top eight states with the highest rate of youth drowning deaths.

The YMCA of Harrison County wishes to do our part in reducing these drowning deaths by teaching our youth to be safe around water through SPLASH.

SPLASH encompasses progressive swimming skills and water safety in a consecutive four day course. The focus is not only on swimming survival skills, but specific themes that will help students prepare and safely enjoy water activities.

SPLASH is made possible with support from the Harrison County Community Foundation. This free program is offered, November through May, in coordination with participating public and private schools in Harrison and surrounding counties.

If you are the parent of a homeschooled third grader and would like your student(s) to participate in SPLASH, please contact Program Director, Aquatics and Facilities, Matt Hamblen, at mhamblen@ymcaharrison.org or 812.734.0770.
